VERMONT KIN AS PARENTS (VKAP)

Vermont Kin As Parents, known as VKAP, is a grassroots, nonprofit organization committed to supporting kin who are raising relatives’ children.
VKAP offers information about resources to kinship families; assists in the development of support groups for kinship caregivers and the children in their care; organizes an annual kinship care conference, and publishes a quarterly newsletter. VKAP also educates public and private agencies about the issues faced by caregivers and their families and advocates at the local, state, and national level for the supports kinship families need.
VKAP’s staff and volunteers are able to help you:
- Figure out the right questions to ask;
- Navigate your way through the multiple systems that exist to help children and families.
- Deal with the difficult emotions you may experience when you assume the role of primary caregiver for a relative’s child.
- Connect you with kinship caregivers who have experienced similar issues as well as support groups throughout Vermont.
