ARE YOU CARING FOR A CHILD OF A RELATIVE OR FAMILY MEMBER? IF SO, DO YOU KNOW YOU ARE A KINSHIP CAREGIVER?

ARE YOU AWARE THAT THERE ARE KINSHIP CARE SUPPORT GROUPS THROUGHOUT VERMONT?

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT KINSHIP CARE AND THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO KINSHIP CAREGIVERS AND THE CHILDREN THEY ARE RAISING?

VERMONT KIN AS PARENTS (VKAP)
can help you.

Vermont Kin As Parents, known as VKAP, is a grassroots, nonprofit organization committed to supporting kin who are raising relatives’ children.

VKAP offers information about resources to kinship families; assists in the development of support groups for kinship caregivers and the children in their care; organizes an annual kinship care conference, and publishes a quarterly newsletter. VKAP also educates public and private agencies about the issues faced by caregivers and their families and advocates at the local, state, and national level for the supports kinship families need.

VKAP’s staff and volunteers are able to help you:

  • Figure out the right questions to ask;
  • Navigate your way through the multiple systems that exist to help children and families.
  • Deal with the difficult emotions you may experience when you assume the role of primary caregiver for a relative’s child.
  • Connect you with kinship caregivers who have experienced similar issues as well as support groups throughout Vermont.

MISSION STATEMENT

Vermont Kin as Parents is committed to support relatives who are raising children and to educate the public and community partners about the joys and difficulties these families experience.
